The West's answer to the sugar maple, lighting canyon slopes with flame-red and orange fall color. A tough, drought-tolerant small tree for the interior mountains. Like sugar maple, the sap taps into a genuine maple syrup; seedlings, seeds, and inner bark have also served as food.
