Chalk Maple
Acer leucoderme
Chalk maple is a refined understory maple named for its pale, smooth bark, lighting up shaded Southeastern slopes with orange and red fall color. An excellent small native shade tree for tight spots. Like other maples, the sap can be tapped and boiled into syrup, and self-sown seedlings and boiled seeds have also served as food.
