Texas Olive
Cordia boissieri
The signature flowering tree of the lower Rio Grande Valley, carrying trusses of large white trumpets with a yellow throat almost continuously in frost-free weather. Leaves are big, soft and sandpapery. Drought-proof once established and readily trained to a single trunk or grown as a broad screening shrub; freezes back in hard winters and resprouts.
