Diphylleia cymosa
A bold shade perennial with umbrella-like lobed leaves up to two feet across, held above the ground on stout stalks. White flowers in late spring give way to deep blue berries on vivid red stalks, the best moment of its year. It needs the cool, wet, humus-rich seep conditions of its Appalachian home.
