Bluff Lettuce
Dudleya farinosa
A chalky rosette succulent that grips seaside cliffs from Oregon to central California, its powdery white coating shielding it from salt and sun. Yellow flowers rise on red stalks in summer. Plant it on a slope or in a crevice — it rots in flat, irrigated ground — and handle it by the base, since the bloom never regrows.
