Beetleweed
Galax urceolata
A glossy evergreen groundcover of Appalachian woods whose round, scalloped leaves turn deep bronze-red in winter — long harvested for the florist trade. Wands of tiny white flowers rise above the mat in early summer. It wants acid, humus-rich soil and shade, and is slow to start but persistent once colonized.
