Dense St. John's Wort

Hypericum densiflorum

Dense St. John's Wort (Hypericum densiflorum)

An upright, densely twiggy native St. John's wort smothered in small golden flowers in midsummer, each a burst of stamens. It takes wet feet and periodic flooding, which makes it a reliable rain garden and streambank shrub, but it is just as happy in ordinary garden soil. Bees work it heavily.
