Catalina Ironwood
Lyonothamnus floribundus
Catalina ironwood is a Channel Islands endemic and the sole survivor of its genus, with shredding red-brown bark and, in the fernleaf form, deeply dissected foliage unlike any other California tree. Broad flat heads of small white flowers appear in early summer and persist brown. Narrow and upright enough for a courtyard; resents heavy summer irrigation.
