Madia elegans
Common madia (tarweed) is an aromatic California annual whose yellow daisies, often red-centered, open in the cool of morning and evening, a long-blooming, drought-tolerant reseeder and good bee and seed plant. The oil-rich seed was a staple food for some tribes, roasted and ground into a traditional meal (piñole).
