Colorado Four O'Clock
Mirabilis multiflora
A billowing mound that opens dozens of magenta trumpets each evening from a massive woody taproot. Pollinated by hawkmoths in the desert dusk. The dried root has been ground and baked into a bread traditionally eaten to curb appetite.
