Cream Cups
Platystemon californicus
Cream cups is a low California annual with soft, hairy foliage and cupped pale-yellow-to-cream flowers on slender stems, a gentle, drought-tolerant reseeder that carpets sunny, sandy openings in spring. Young leaves have been cooked as a green, though as a member of the poppy family — which includes several toxic species — this is a minor, use-with-caution food.
