Nuttall oak is a fast-growing bottomland red oak that tolerates heavy, wet clay and seasonal flooding, finishing the year in red and orange. An increasingly popular tough shade tree with reliable fall color. Its acorns are traditional food once the bitter tannins are leached out and the seed ground into flour.
