Marlberry
Ardisia escallonioides
Marlberry carries dense conical panicles of small fragrant white flowers above glossy leaves, followed by fruit that ripens through red to glossy black — often flowers and fruit at once. A shade-tolerant hammock shrub that takes gradually to a small tree. Not to be confused with the invasive Asian Ardisia crenata sold as coral berry.
