Rose-pink hooded flowers, shaped unmistakably like a turtle's head, top glossy dark foliage in late summer when little else is blooming in wet shade. Larval host for the Baltimore checkerspot. The ubiquitous cultivar 'Hot Lips' is a selection of this species.
