Downy Rattlesnake Plantain
Goodyera pubescens
Grown for the leaves rather than the flowers: a flat evergreen rosette netted with brilliant white veins, holding its pattern all winter under snow. The small white flowers on a downy spike are almost beside the point. Wants dry acidic humus in dry shade, and resents being moved.
